7 Ways To Start Spring Cleaning
I have only lived in my house for a couple of months, but I am already feeling the urge to declutter and clean everything. I am also the type of person that will clean everything in a day or nothing at all and there is not an in between.
With most of the items on my list taking less than 15 minutes I feel confident I can do them when I first get up, on my lunch break or while dinner is cooking on the stove. I hope this list helps you with your spring cleaning goals!
7 Ways To Start Spring Cleaning
- Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet
Honestly, I do not even know what I currently have or if any of it is still good. I also need to look to make sure I have what we use most often: Tylenol, Gas-x, Nyquil and Dayquil, and Cortisone cream are the top five we use most often.
- Clean Out Your Fridge
I don’t just mean throwing away your expired food or finally dumping that Tupperware container you have been blowing off. Completely clear out your fridge and wipe down all the shelves and drawers before putting your food back in.
- Wash Sheets, Comforters, Pillowcases, Couch Covers, Etc.
What is great about this day is you could knock something else off your list while these are in the washer. We all know that we are supposed to wash our sheets and blankets about every 2 weeks, but honestly it is usually the last thing on my mind, and I will skip it to do something else. Today is the day to make it a priority!
PRO TIP: Rotating your mattress often will stop it from sinking in areas and help you get a better night sleep!
- Dust
Dust blinds, shelves, ceiling fans (if you have them)! If you have slightly older kids this is a great way to get them in on the cleaning too! It is fast and you can tell if they do a good job which is a great teaching moment to give them more responsibility.
- Wash Windows
I would save this for the end of your day but take some time and wash your windows both inside and out. Clean up those handprints, slobber, and those doggy nose swipes. Another great way to get those older kids involved too! Make it fun and give them the hose.
- Prepare Your Closet
I would say go ahead and start putting your long sleeves and sweaters away, but this is the pacific northwest and the weather can really change at any moment. What I do encourage you to do is place all your hangers so that they face you in the closet. After you wear and wash an item when placing it back in your closet turn the hanger the other direction, so it now faces the back of the closet. Doing this step will let you know which items in your closet you wear and which ones you don’t – if by the end of the summer you still haven’t worn that blue top you bought last year, donate it!
- Clean the Floors
Sweep and mop all your laminated flooring and vacuum all the carpeted areas. This is another great way to get the kids involved, even the younger ones to help participate!
