Temp Taryn Tweets!

It was a sunny and beautiful morning here in Seattle this past Sunday, and just like most Sundays my husband, my dog, and I are walking to the local coffee shop – The Station. As I’m waiting in line I look out the window and realize that there is not a single child playing at this park across the street. More than that, I can’t think of a single time that this park has been packed with kids – as all good parks should be one point or another! This sparks my curiosity: how can I get more people to know about this brand new, highly under-used park?

It just so happens that I have started managing the ANFU Twitter account this week! I am starting a new series called #TempTarynTweets – I will be taking pictures and posting about fun and kid friendly places or activities throughout the state – you see, I travel the state quite a bit! The first installment is to showcase this wonderful park on Beacon Hill in Seattle.

The park is located at El Centro de La Raza on Beacon Hill, less than one block from the Beacon Hill light rail station (another fun activity for any kid). There are two large play structures with ropes, ladders, bridges, slides, and even a small rock wall. There is also a smaller structure for little ones and a separate swing set. Another great feature of this park is the gazebo. It’s covered so there is always shade – bring your picnic supplies to fully enjoy this outside experience.

My favorite perk of this park: The coffee shop across the street, The Station. Not only are the owners Beacon Hill residents who are fully engaged in the betterment of the community, they are also really nice folks! You will often find their cute kids running around which makes the atmosphere perfect for everyone; not to mention their coffee! I highly recommend their Mexican Mocha instead of your usual order. There is a big front window that looks directly at the park – if you have big kids you can let them play while you enjoy your coffee and a good book!

Check back next week for the next installment. You never know where my travels may take me next!

– Taryn
